PROFILE

Andrzej Bargiela received BSc/MSc in Electronics and Informatics from the Silesian Technical University (1978) and PhD from the University of Durham, UK (1984). He was appointed as Senior Research Fellow at the University of Durham (1981-1984), Senior Lecturer (1984-1992), Reader (DSc) (1992-1996) and Professor (1996-2007) at the Nottingham Trent University. In 2007 he was appointed as Professor of Computer Science at the University of Nottingham and was seconded as Director of the School of Computer Science at the Malaysia Campus. From 2011 to 2013 he was Director of Internationalisation in the School of Computer Science at the University of Nottingham, UK. He is a founding Director and Chief Executive Officer of a research spin-off company, Infohub Ltd., (2003-2021).

External appointments include: Full Professorship conferred by the President of Poland in 2005, Visiting Professorships from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand (2014-2017), Krakow University of Technology, Poland (2011-2019), Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan (2005), University of Alberta, Canada (2000-2007), Helsinki University of Technology, Finland (2004) and University of Bari, Italy (2003), Visiting Research Fellowship from Konan University, Japan (2004-2008) and Erskine Fellowship from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand (2014). He served as President of the European Council for Modelling and Simulation (2002-2006), (2010-2012), served as Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man and Cybernetics - Systems (2008-2020) and serves as Associate Editor of the Information Sciences (2009 - ), as well as being a member of Editorial Boards of several international journals and of the College of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
RESEARCH INTERESTS
My research falls under the general heading of Computational Intelligence and can be grouped
into six complementary areas.
